Had some time so did some playing:-

1) Clean built 15.04 in a new partition & rebooted.
2) Tested out Youtube – SOUND – Also checked out Rhythmbox. Sound also OK.  Good start!!
3) Software updater kicked in. Installed updates, rebooted and Youtubed/Rhythmbox. Still OK.
4) Being an AMD motherboard, with onboard Radeon graphics, I next installed fglrx. Rebooted and tested Youtubed/Rhythmbox. Sound gone.
5) Apt-get remove fglrx, re-boot & tested. Sound back.
6) Back to soundless 14.04. Apt-get remove fglrx, re-boot & tested. Sound back.

Now to find and test an older fglrx so I can get some screen resolution
back.
