Welcome Splash! An audiophile eh? That's awesome. I don't mess with
music much anymore (besides enjoying it!), but I do have a BA in Music
:-) I used to use Cubase and such back in the day. You would be
interested in ubuntustudio I think:

Although not as many or well known, there are folks who work with audio
in linux with success.
