Re: My mockup for ubiquity slideshow
Oh my, the before shot is quite incorrect. What you need to do is open
slides/Slideshow.html, or PlaySlideshow.sh. Your browser must have
Javascript enabled for it to function. There are lots of little
guidelines and tips in the Readme file that gets distributed with the
project, and I have added fairly extensive comments in different
places. (Let me know if I've missed a spot).
The individual slides are really small snippets of HTML; not full HTML
documents.
Interestingly, we have a similar thing going on with the borders on
the top and bottom, although yours consume a bit less space. If you're
feeling adventurous, it should be possible to modify the existing
slides/link/general.css to create a style very much like what you have
here. I see what you did for the writing. Kind of cute :)
I don't think the bold / italicised text is necessary - at least not
as frequently as done here. (On which topic, that "installation is
finishing soon" bit probably doesn't need to be highlighted like that.
Your way is nice; just leaving that information to Ubiquity's progress
bar).
I agree about placing stuff in special visual contexts. Neat idea with
the address bar, although I felt myself wanting to click the dropdown
arrow since it looks like a combo box full of URLs... and people
generally associate blue / underlined text with URLs. In some other
cases, though, especially where people aren't as familiar with what we
are showing them, it sure makes sense.
This is something I found pretty funny: The existing design uses the
release's wallpaper, too. Depending on what the art team does (and
whether it makes me want to tear my eyes out) it should be using the
release's alternative wallpaper as a background so it doesn't clash
with anything.
I'm liking the more imaginative use of colours for text. My text is
all plain white and plain black, so a proper accent colour would be
really fun to tinker with.
Thanks for the mockup!
