  inconsistent keydown JS event firing

Bug description:
  What happened:
  Going to [1] in the emulator and pressing any number key yields no alert
  Pressing the backspace will yield an alert

  What was expected:
  Expected an alert for all keys.

  Input type does not seem pertinent.
