All right, we've effectively ruled out needing to twiddle MSI for her
machine, so that leaves one remaining route *if* she can reproduce the
symptom using the latest Lucid live cd. In that case, we need to
explicitly initialize and set up (or fake) events for hp
insertion/removal. It's essentially two lines.
