Hi ubuntu-doc team (ubuntu-audio-dev cc:ed),

There are several guides for sound troubleshooting on help.ubuntu.com:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingGuide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure

In addition to the more official documentation at

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems

Perhaps more official is the Ubuntu Desktop Guide, shipped on the
Ubuntu CDs and available at help.ubuntu.com.

https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/ubuntu-help/sound-broken.html

There may already be a minimal version of what you want already there.
The documentation suggests filing a bug. The bug reporting page tells
people to use ubuntu-bug, which does have an option to report a
sound/audio related problem.

Interesting. Once it is time to update these documents for 12.04, could that person be in contact with someone in the ubuntu-audio-dev team, e g myself, to make sure the information is top quality? Or how do these things work?
