In the Ubuntu-cyclists team on LP, we have talked about how nice it
would be to ride in an Ubuntu jersey. I think the team has silently
nominated me to investigate the matter, so therefore I am writing to
you. I have a few specific questions, that you perhaps can help us
with.
0) Does the Ubuntu-cyclists team need a formal permission to use the
Ubuntu logo on a jersey?
1) Do you think we could persuade the Canonical Store to market the
jersey? While I could probably manage to put up the cash for the
production of the jerseys, it would be difficult for me to handle
the shipping. We might be able to make a guaranteed pre-ordering
from the team.
2) There is a tradition in cycling teams that there are
advertisements on the jersey, so we might as well have some fun with
that. Is Canonical interested in sponsorship via an advertisement? I
believe the standard fee is 5-10% of the netto price, depending on
the placement. This would help us keep the cost down for the end-
customers. Do you know of any of Canonicals customers that might be
interested?
3) If everything moves forward, and the team members agree, I intend
to ask FOSS providers of software of use for cyclists and training
if they would like a (free) advertisement on the jersey. For example
OpenStreetMaps, Golden Cheetah etc. That way, the jersey will be a
nice "poster" that we can use to recruit other cyclists to Ubuntu
and free software.
4) My plan is to ask the skilled Ubuntu-arts people to help us with
a beautiful and stunning design. In the meantime, we have made a few
mock-ups using the software Owayo's home page. Look here: [0].
Cheers,
Morten
