Message #00097
Removal of documentation bits from the repositories + cleanup
Hi,
I took some time this afternoon to perform two tasks:
1) Given that Valentin's MP to consolidate every image documentation
into the templates.git repository has landed, I have now deleted
everything related to documentation from each image's repository. This
means that whenever we need to update/add new documentation about our
images, we should do it in the templates.git repository.
2) Since I was going to have to touch every branch of every repository
anyway, I decided it was a good opportunity to do a bit of cleanup.
Here's what I did:
- Removed stale/old branches from each repository. From now on, if you
want to propose a change to some repo, please fork it into your own LP
namespace and create an MP from there.
- Removed old cruft from some of the old images. We have things like
.github/ directories, Travis configuration files, and a few other
useless bits. They're all gone now.
- Cleaned up (i.e., purged everything from) the edge/main branches.
These branches are currently unused and should be empty, otherwise
they will cause confusion because they're the default branches to be
checked out when cloning the repositories. Eventually we might want
to use these branches for something more useful (Athos suggested that
they could be used as development branches), but we still need to sit
down and discuss this idea.
You will notice that the repositories are much cleaner now; let's try to
keep them that way :-). I also took the liberty of doing all of the
above without filing MPs because otherwise you'd see dozens of very
similar proposals and it'd take a whole day to prepare and merge them.
Please, feel absolutely free to check on what I did and to let me/us
know if you notice anything wrong/strange.
Thanks,
