[Question #39682]: choppy video playback

New question #39682 on Ubuntu Eee:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eee/+question/39682

I recently installed the netbook remix and everything was nice. I watched a whole movie on my little eee screen and it ran fine. Then, the next day, I did a few of the performance fixes on the Ubuntu eee wiki and went through synaptic and uninstalled a bunch of stuff to free up space. Since that day, I have noticed that video playback seems to skip every few seconds. This happens in all video players I've tried (VLC, Mplayer, Totem) and also seems to happen to screen savers. Is there anything I could have uninstalled that would cause such a problem, or could any of the fixes have caused video slow downs? I know this might be difficult to diagnose. Are there any steps I could take to start taking a run at this problem? Thanks. Mike.
