[Bug 264959] Re: do not replace free software with non-fre software
@JRocket
you use the example of non-free drivers - and it is described as a
pragmatic necessity not ideal - but as far as I know Ubuntu does not
include any proprietary end user software which is the case. if you can
make an example of proprietary application software that is included in
Ubuntu it would a more salient example.
It might be enough to Skype include it "as well as Ekiga" not instead of
it and not as the default so that users will at least try the Free
Software before lumping for the proprietary software.
What would Ubuntu do? That is what I am asking of the developers of
Ubuntu EEE to keep in mind.

Bug description:
On your web site, you state:
"It's an operating system based upon open source software, but also providing some proprietary alternatives (e.g. Skype instead of Ekiga). Sounds great!" -- http://www.ubuntu-eee.com/index.php5?title=Main_Page
This is not a feature, it is a bug. By providing proprietary alternatives, you are encouraging people to use them instead of the free software equivalents, which is bad for users, both in the short term and long term.
Please do not ship non-free applications by default.
