JRocket proposed the following answer:
I have the same issue with Ubuntu-eee 8.4.1 RC2.  I have the United
Kingdom repository selected from the installation.  If I reload the
repositories in Synaptic, I get errors on the last 5 or 10 repository
entries, saying invalid hash.

I switched to the main server repository and reload worked just fine.
Changing it back again to on of the UK repositories worked without
error.
