Woudnt it be nice  when a new installation would backup and restore your homedir applications and settings. so it would not take many hours to rebuild all you had before a minor update (4.0.8 to 4.0.8.1) 

A choice to skip the new desktop would also be a big improvement. The new 4.0.8.1 desktop only adds functionality on a device with touchscreen. Other ways it only increases the number of mouse  actions.
