I have the same problem on my eee 900.

Ubuntu eee boots fine from the USB-stick. When I click on the Install
icon nothing happens.

When I try to run the command (ubiquity --desktop %k gtk_ui) from the
prompt with strace i get 409 rows of No such file or directory.
