shardlojik is still having a problem:
Good thinking about the script. Maybe some auto-config daemon is kicking
in?

Meanwhile I've discovered that the Fn + volume/up down buttons don't
really work. The slider goes up/down in the window at the top left, but
in reality the volume doesn't change at all. Mute appears to be OK
though.
