[Question #45295]: No mail client on Ubuntu eee 8.04.1

I download off the torrent today and installed no problems. I have noticed there is no email client but it states there should be Thunderbird. I also did not get Picasa automatically, I had to download from google. I have tried to update but get error message that not all packages could be retrieved. I also could not install the add-on to run mp4s as it said not supported. 
Is this a problem with the release or have I somehow downloaded a dodgy version?
