hi, 
There must be something wrong with the menu.lst. In your menu.lst is a reference to your usb-stick and if this is not attached Grub throws this error (see http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html#Stage2-errors). You have to edit yor menu.lst. If you do not find the references to usb-stick,  post your menu.lst here, i will help you than.
