I have a 701 4g and i have ubuntu eee 8.04.1. 
my volume is set to maximum and i tried to use the Fix described in the wiki, but i keep getting access denied to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base so i cant add the line it says to add.
so i tried running the other scripts. the unload seems to work, but when i run sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel nothing happens except the ubuntu login song plays. 
im a linux n00b. what to do? other than this, ubuntu eee is working great.
