Greetings from Guelph. I have been using Ubuntu EEE on my 701 4G since the beginning of October. 
May I second what surfed said and recommend the wicd package from the Sourceforge website? It replcaes the Gnome network manager and it has solved all of my wireless connectivity issues. I am now logged in to my encrypted home network every time I boot up without exception so far.
