I am in the exact same boat as you poirot. I upgrade because update
manager had been harassing me for a couple days to update, so I did.
Wifi worked in the morning, updated, wifi (nor ethernet) no longer
works. I checked grub and the only kernels I have are the eeepc kernels.

I get asked for a password for the wireless network, but it never joins.

eeeUbuntu should have some way of not allowing certain aspects of the os
to be updated by the regular ubuntu repositories if there are going to
be conflicts like this.
