Bug description:
Using an identical _working_ pppd configuration as my Ubuntu home server the Huawei E220 USB modem when used with Ubuntu-eee only allows IP connections from the root user. It connects fine, allocates DNS and IP addresses but resolvers do not work with any application unless the application is run as a root. I've used both pppd/chat and wvdial all with the same error. I have tested multiple providers (different SIM cards) with no difference, both systems are using pppd 2.4.4

I'm using ubuntu-eee-8.04.1 on the EeePC.
