I tried totem and vlc, but I cannot get videos using the whole available screen on my 701.

After selecting "full screen" in both programs the screen turns into black and the video consumes 70% of the screen with black borders at the top and the buttons as well as left and right. The video is completely visible, but smaller than the whole screen.
