with the newer kernel and elantech-driver, it's now possible to use SHMconfig and get back the trackpad-tab  in mouse properties and gsynaptics.
There are still some further issues that we're wirking on, but this should be a-ok.

Bug description:
I'm running 8.04 on my eee (including the ricey scripts). It seems that compared to 7.10, there has been a regression concerning the eeepc trackpad. In 8.04 I am unable to use the side scroll function (extreme right side of the trackpad used to scroll up and down a page).

This may be because in 8.04 System > Preferences > Mouse does not contain "Trackpad" tab.

This has been tested on the eeepc 700 and 900
