Now I have solved at least my problem. I used the instructions on this
site " http://www.ubuntu-
eee.com/wiki/index.php5?title=Fix:_volume_control "  thought it said it
was implemented in the 8.04.1 ubuntu eee it obviously was not on my
computer. After following the instructions everything worked as
anticipated.
