2 GB are really too little space. Installing on the sd card seems a
viable solution, but is your card fast enough? You need a very good
quality SDHC card. Also SDs tend to wear quite fast.
Another way could be to install / (root) on your SSD and /home on a SDHC
card. I would leave swap out unless you really know you need it. And,
what about ram? Does your eee allow you to change it? Because you'd
really need at least 1 GB.
