[Bug 323844] Re: unetbootin does not copy files to the usb disk
But, when I mounted the USB disk with root it worked! I did not install
anything at all in between the failed and successful attempts. Simply
mounted the USB disk by hand, as root. I don't see how 7zip can come
into play here.

Bug description:
Hi,
My OS is ubuntu 8.10, pretty vanilla, no fancy tweaks, but for some reason unetbootin does not copy the files on the USB disk. I installed unetbootin from unetbootin_304-4_i386.deb
My USB disk was mounted automatically when inserted, as /dev/sdb1 on /media/disk
The unetbootin installer detects it correctly, it is also the only USB disk in the list, correctly.
The installer shows the files are being copied to /media/disk, but finished surprisingly soon, in just a few seconds.
I checked my USB disk device path, the mount parameters, deleted all the files from the disk with rm -fr and re-run a couple of times but same result.
I have a workaround though.
The output of 'mount' for /dev/sdb1 precisely matched the one on the wiki. Based on a hunch that the problem might be related to that. So I unmunted, and then remounted as root with simply 'mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt'. This way unetbootin worked well and copied the files.
I think you should put this workaround on the wiki.
Let me know if you need further info about my env.
Thanks a lot for this project, it works great and I truly appreciate it.
Janos
