+1 but we still need to talk about how will this work .. Some people will
monitor the mailing list, other facebook ..etc. How will we share the
privileges in manageable manner ?

Needs more details as organizing event, specially offline, requires lots of
communication between related teams. We need to define what they will do
specifically?, how will they interact with marketing ? Are they just
keepers of a long todo list ?
