Re: [Ubuntugnome-qa] [Bug: 1184451] Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

It has been quite a while since I have even used gnome-shell 3.8, however there was one specific bug that I thought was mostly fixed. Symptoms would be
   - Screen Freezes *but* mouse still moves
   - Switching to a VT and restarting gnome-shell would work and fix it
   - It will nearly always cause a JS LOG message in ~/.cache/upstart/gnome-session.log, corresponding with the time of the freeze.

This was caused by stuck grabs, and is a gnome-shell bug. Very unlikely related to the other complaints of heavy CPU load, frozen mouse and VT switching, Sysrq keys frozen. These latter symptons sound more like Kernel, X, Gpu driver bugs.

Hello Ali,

I am running Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 64bit with 3.11.0-14-generic kernal
on a HP Pavilion tower with a AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor with 4 Gigs RAM.
I am using a Nvidia GeForce GT 520 graphics card with the 319.60 driver.

Not sure if it is related, but I recently purged preload from my machine and I have not had a freeze within the past day or so.

Yes, I have run into this bug several times. It seems to happen under heavy CPU load.
I also am running dual monitor setup.

Hello Jason,

I'd appreciate if you could provide 'more' details, please?

Your hardware specifications, release, etc etc.

Looking at the people affected by this bug is not funny. Seems like a nasty bug :/
