It has been quite a while since I have even used gnome-shell 3.8,
however there was one specific bug that I thought was mostly fixed.
Symptoms would be - Screen Freezes *but* mouse still moves - Switching to a VT and restarting gnome-shell would work and fix it - It will nearly always cause a JS LOG message in ~/.cache/upstart/gnome-session.log, corresponding with the time of the freeze. This was caused by stuck grabs, and is a gnome-shell bug. Very unlikely related to the other complaints of heavy CPU load, frozen mouse and VT switching, Sysrq keys frozen. These latter symptons sound more like Kernel, X, Gpu driver bugs. On 30/12/13 09:48, Jason Lysinger
