[Ubuntugnome-qa] Installer tested + HiDPI checked out
Hi all,
I finally got around to testing trusty on a Fujitsu U904 which has a
3200x1800 pixel screen on just 14".
First of all the installation in general went smooth on the machine.
Below some more detailed points about the installation tests.
+ Good
= Not tested
- Doesn't work or is missing (wish)
Installer in general:
The installer detected HiDPI screen properly and scaled (as much as
Gnome 3.10 is able to). The cursor is hard to find - it didn't scale.
Although HiDPI is not fully implemented on Gnome 3.10 the GUI scaled
rather well and I couldn't find any obvious mistakes there. The most
common installer options work very well.
Internet connection:
+ The Installer asks for Wifi - works great!
= Couldn't test LAN, yet
- No Question about a proxy on the installer
- I wished an option to set up WWAN there as well.
+ WWAN can be set up from the "live CD's" Gnome Shell and worked great!
Partitioning:
+ All given "easy" options work incl. full disk encryption
= Didn't check if swap is encrypted using "easy" options and eCrypt
+ UEFI/GPT is properly detected and grub2 is set up on EFI partition
+ Custom partitioning:
+ Created lots of partitions, did resizes and reverts nothing broke
+ Btrfs: for / works.
- Btrfs: Subvolume layout fixed. created / and /home only.
- dmcrypt: Only Passphrase protected drive supported.
= swap: In order to have a secure eCrypt swap must be encrypted.
The installer set it up automatically by just choosing swap
- After the installation was complete cryptswap1 was in the
cryptsetup configuration file, however it could not be started.
The partition used is addressed by UUID, however cryptsetup says
that the device with this specific UUID is not present.
- dmcrypt: No Option to generate a "USB key" with certificate
- dmcrypt: Not able to select crypt / hash algo
Some more info on the HiDPI display:
+ HiDPI auto detected and scaled (GTK3 only, of course)
= Not tested yet what happens when external monitor is connected
- System Menu on the installer's gnome shell was not wide enough to show
text fully, but had "...ed" most entries. After first login
Gnome-shell scaled the menu correctly.
- Cursor way too small
That's it for now. I will try the daily build again soon and dive a bit
deeper into the dmcrypt related problems I noticed - or is someone
already on some of this? Please drop me a line if I should set priority
on something, also if you feel something should be tested that I did not
cover. If you already know or have reported some of the findings above,
please let me know as well.
Just one more question: How much of the installer is customized and
against which package should I report bugs?
I intend to write some stuff up on the Wiki concerning HiDPI when we
approach the trusty stable release.
... But first it's time for some sleep.
cya,
Michael
