Hello Lance and everyone else,

Hi again,

I realize the state of the current iso images is beyond our control, at least the upgrade tests passed OK though, but I'm quite serious when I say this;

The Utopic Beta 2 Release notes should simply recommend using the Beta 1 images or upgrading from Trusty (perhaps with a reminder to 'ppa-purge' any PPA's in use). In their current state the images should NOT be used for anything but "entire disc" installs when there is only one disc installed in the machine and the plan is to erase all existing data and OS's on the machine.

While this conversation is about upgrading Beta 1 to Beta 2:

I still find it - IMHO - more important to do a fresh new installation than upgrading. Yes, I am not suggesting to ignore the 'upgrade' but all what I am stating is: new installation test is a high priority. However, this is what I think :) YMMV.

Two points to keep in mind and this is for everyone:

(1) While it is always good to remind the testers to do an upgrade test from Trusty to Utopic, this should be one of the 'tests' that testers do.

(2) Above all, the Wiki Pages are not strict to Ali, Tim or Ubuntu GNOME Wiki Team :) really, everyone can help and add/update whatever he/she feels good for everyone. Ubuntu GNOME is not my nor Tim nor anyone's project, it is a community project and I highly dislike the fact that only few people are involved. Anyone is more than welcome and invited to play his role. Yes, I know you prefer to stay away from Wiki Pages but this is an open invite to ALL and EVERYONE who wish to add/update anything.

If you can't for whatever reason, send us an email which in your case, you did that already. If you don't want to do that, then don't complain about it. Plain and simple :) again, this is for everyone, not just Lance :)

Sorry to come across as a Debbie Downer but those are just the facts as I see them.

"For those who wish to use the latest releases, please remember to do an upgrade test from Trusty Tahr (Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS) to Utopic Unicorn Beta 2. Needless to say, Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 is an LTS release that is supported for 3 years, so this test is for those who seek the latest system/packages and don’t mind the LTS (Long Term Support) Releases."

We always appreciate your feedback. I don't find it a very high priority because usually, we don't mention that on the Release Notes ... this is something that the QA team do usually. The Release Notes is something else, it is not entirely for the QA team. It is for everyone.

I just logged in and opened my machine. I will prepare the announcement and all .. will mention the upgrade test on the website post ;)
