48 Hours

Hi everyone,

Sorry I didn't make it to the meeting, I slept in! Was up quite late last
night studying for my exams next week.

I've read the logs and looks like you guys survived fairly well without me
which is fantastic. Here's some stuff that I'll fill in:

=== 48 Hours of Ubuntu Manual Learning ===

Nice work on organizing this. I've read the etherpad stuff and updated the
wiki with the proposed times. I've also added installation instructions for
Lernid and a link to the Lernid homepage for more information. If you could
install this and familiarize yourself with it in the next week that would be
great, especially for session teachers. Also, we need to finalize the times
by about Wednesday.

=== BETA Release ===

"In this release, the content of the manual should represent what it will
look like in the final release - all references, links and images should be
in place, and final formatting, color scheme and styles should start to take
shape. Translations should be well on their way to completion."

That's more or less true - apart from the images. We can only start getting
images on the 3rd of March (which is the Lucid User Interface freeze I
think). There's no way we'll be able to get 30+ screenshots in 40+ languages
in 15 days. That's 1200 screenshots!

For BETA emphasis and priority is on writing and editing. Fine tune the
content - remember on the 18th of March we release beta and *freeze the
writing* so the translations can catch up.

=== Global Jam ===

You guys got the idea more or less. Have a look here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-manual/Jam

Basically we want to participate if we can. If there is a global jam event
near you, go along in person and act as a "manual representative" to spread
the love... obviously also fix bugs and things for the manual.

Most of it will take place over IRC. The main things we want to fix are:

   - Niggly bugs in formatting for the languages
   - Small changes to style and colour
   - Optimization of file size
   - Cleaning unused or obsolete files from the bzr branch
   - Removing or re-wording obsolete information on the wiki
   - Re-targeting blueprints and updating specifications
   - Enhancing our profiles on the social sites, like Facebook, Twitter,
   identi.ca etc

=== Artwork Icons ===

The "artwork icons" topic was basically to discuss icons for everything...
the title page, the warning ones, and chapter heading icons. who's going to
make them, what they'll look like, where they'll go and how many we need.
You guys got the right idea, if the design team could create an icon for
each chapter, then that would be swell.

=== T-T-Title Page! ===

This was just to discuss the title page. It'll be deferred to the next
meeting.

Cheers, and keep up the good work everyone!
