Actually -- I just looked it up in Ubuntu's own help, and it's pretty
pathetic, but they recommend downloading the gnome-network-admin package on
another computer. They also say "Most dialup modems are not supported by
Ubuntu, but drivers can be found...<etc>".

Please ignore my request. This is just too difficult and I'm claiming it to
be an unsupported use case. I'll remove the dialup section altogether.
