Getting Nautilus 3.4 back would certainly involve using PPAs which doesn't sound good. AskUbuntu, #ubuntu on irc and the Ubuntu Forums expect users *not* to use PPAs if they want help,so we should not be adding a special section.
That sounds patronizing to me ): But I agree it would not be such a good idea to let beginners install from PPAs.

On IRC Kevin wrote (and Carsten agrees):
hannie: Since the manual is primarily for people just starting to use Ubuntu, I think it'd be too confusing to say, 'Here's how the file manager works. But this one stinks and you should install this other one instead.' I think we're better off just documenting the default file manager.
Ok, that means I will have some (re)writing to do on Nautilus.

PS: I don't remember the reason why they were removed, but GNOME had some reasons for it.
I got the information from omgubuntu.uk. This could be the reason:

Now, in all fairness, the removal of this feature makes sense… in GNOME-Shell. There Nautilus isn’t used to ‘handle the desktop’.

But the removal doesn’t take into account the many LInux distributions, which includes Ubuntu, that are built upon GNOME but following its touch-centric and pared back GNOME OS design vision.

    To all,
It looks as if the file manager used in Raring will be "Files". I
am not happy with this at all. Since I am responsible for the
Nautilus section I wonder if I should write a special section on
how to get Nautilus 3.4 back in Raring.
Look at the following list of features that have been removed:
