Re: Merge with the Ubuntu Docs team?

Sorry for the second email, but I just read through the minutes.

1. I didn't join the docs team because I didn't realize that I could
contribute there. When I joined the Manual, it was more a "oh, I can
help out? OK" type of thing.

2. The benefit of the manual is that it's written in plain-English
without the technical jargon that you find in the official
documentation. Like you said in the chat, it goes into the why a little
more than just saying "Here's how to do it". I think more people
(especially those who are just starting out) would appreciate that. Plus
we include pictures and examples, where the documentation just says
"Here's what you do".

3. As I mentioned in my other email, I think that we should combine
forces and work on both. If they have active members and we have active
members, we could cover both pretty easily. We're not really duplicating
them, as much as we're going more in depth on the basics. Plus we don't
really cover a lot of the technical or advanced stuff like they do.

4. I'm not as active as I'd like to be, but I'll consider joining the
docs team if we do disband.

5. Exactly what IS the desktop documentation? Pretty much everything
that I search for on ubuntu gives me just web pages with no real
structure. The only structured thing I see is the Server Guide. Are they
considering making an actual Desktop Guide? If so, then we could jump
right in on that (as that's essentially what the manual is).

That's my .02 worth. If they want to make some form of structure for
their documentation, I think we could definitely do that. But if it's
just going to be a search and pray like now, then we still need the
manual.

Have a great day.:)
Patrick.

(I think the Ubuntu Docs is the only thing I've ran into where there's
no attempt at a table of contents (or it's hidden pretty well). Even
Fedoras documentation is laid out as a wiki with a TOC.)
