Re: Revival of the Ubuntu Manual Project

Hi Sylvie,

Thank you for your offer to help and your comment. Sadly, thus far we have had just one response. That means that, apart from Kevin, you, me and Sayantan Das nobody from the Ubuntu Manual Team has offered to help contribute.

According to [1] we have 150 active members. I wonder if they have received/read the latest e-mails on this list.

Unfortunately, we cannot start working on a new version of our manual until we have enough contributors, which is very doubtful.

Best regards,
Hannie

Hi All,

Sorry for replying so late to Kevin's message, I've been very busy these last months But I'm now a little more available and I think I can help as editor and translator (but not as author).

The major change between 16.04 and 20.04 is the migration from Unity to Gnome, but there's another subject that needs to be addressed and hasn't been in previous versions of the UM, although it was already a source of problems for people installing Ubuntu: installing on UEFI systems. I know nothing about UEFI but some of you probably do :-)

  Best regards to All,

Hello to all UMP members,

I would be in favor of publishing our manual for the new LTS release 20.04. To do so, we need a lot of enthusiastic contributors who are willing to spend some time on this beautiful project.

So far, no one has responded to Kevin's e-mail. Let us know if you are willing to contribute. For further information, please have a look at https://ubuntu-manual.org/getinvolved and https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-manual.

Hello, everyone.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS will be released in April. I thought it might be a good time to revive the Ubuntu Manual Project.

There are a couple things we'll need to do to start:

1. Take a census of authors and editors. We'll likely need to recruit some more as well.

2. Determine which chapters and sections we'll need to update for Ubuntu 20.20. We last released Getting Started with Ubuntu 16.04. This was prior to migrating from Unity to Gnome. So we definitely have our work cut out for us.

If you'd like to volunteer as an author, editor, or translator for Getting Started with Ubuntu 20.04, just reply to this email.

Thanks!
