Re: Addressing the lack of Trademark License for YouTube, Twitter and Facebook Core Apps

 

The Trademark and Copyright would still apply since we are using the
logos (albeit modified) it still violates both their Trademark
policies and copyright law which all three brands are asserting and
they make it pretty clear that they do not make any exception whether
it be an app or website.

The reason trademarks exist is to protect other companies or
individuals from using a brand in a manner
inconsistent with the wishes of the right holder and also to prevent
use of anything in a similar likeness.

The logos shipped in the webapps right now and on launchpad are a
black and white version but even if we change the logos it is still at
pretty clear violation of their policy and opens up the possibility of
them taking legal action.

We should strive to not infringe on others trademarks and copyright
just as we expect others not to misuse the Ubuntu trademark.
