    Apps Team - Status March 21, 2014

    Summary:

Progress has been slowed greatly by the transitions to Android 4.4 and
Qt5.2 and the resultant blockages and issues that have occurred on the
build/test/release process. We have quite a few large features that are
close to landing (conference calling, dual-sim, contact sync,
webbrowser-oxide, content-hub) and we hope to be able to get these
actually landed once the queue unblocks and they can be properly tested
in silos.

    Telephony Services:

  *

Conference calling support added, MR's being tested in silos now

  *

Dual-Sim support added to relevant telepathy backends and telephony
service, MR's being tested in silos now.

  *

    Class 0 SMS support added

  *

USSD support in development, good progress being made.

  *

Firefighting some issues with failing tests and builds on arm64 and
    powerpc

    Messaging App:

  *

Modifications for dual-sim support in place, next step is to
implement UI to allow choosing/displaying the carrier to send
    message on.

  *

Firefighting intermittent AP test failures on Qt5.2 images

    Dialer App:

  *

Modifications for dual-sim support in place, next step is to
implement UI to allow choosing/displaying the carrier to make call
on, MR's being tested in silos now

  *

Conference calling support functional with temporary UI/assets. MR's
    being tested in silos now.

  *

    USSD frontend work in progress.

    Webbrowser App:

  *

Very close to landing initial version of webbrowser-app with oxide
backend as the default (installable from ppa:phablet-team/ppa).
Remaining blockers to be addressed early next week:

      o

user-agent override mechanism needs to be functioning for
correct functionality of certain sites, like gmail.com

      o

fix crasher on sites requesting geo-location

  *

Implemented new version (0.2) of UbuntuWebView which uses oxide
backend. Version 0.1 will continue to use QtWebKit backend but will
be marked deprecated and phased out after some time.

  *

Released a new version of webbrowser-app with multiple bug fixes

    Address Book App/Service:

  *

Many pending MR's piled up as we wait for CI Train to become unblocked

  *

Changes mostly focused on optimizations needed for contact syncing
    and some design changes

  *

Fought many issues with failing tests and builds on arm64 and powerpc

    Contact Syncing:

  *

    sync-monitor work continued

      o

        better performance

      o

support for syncing default calendar as well as default address book

  *

blocked until address-book-* can get released

    Content Hub:

  *

Work nearly complete on transition to new content-hub API, MR's are
now being testing in silo after being blocked for the past week.

  *

Work nearly complete on Peer Picker UI component, MR's are now being
tested in silo after being blocked for the past week.

      o

additional work to continue to improve performance of icon loading

  *

Work nearly complete on webbrowser-app file upload, pending all of
    the above landing

  *

Work to start next week on integration with Download Manager from
    Browser.

    OSK:

  *

some minor bug fixes for predictive text and auto-caps landed

    Gallery

  *

Gallery finally released as a click package

  *

After being blocked in CI Train for quite some time, finally landed
some significant changes to gallery-app that improve desktop mode
    and on device:

      o

Bug #907870: [desktop] Gallery does not display photos in sub
        folders

      o

Bug #1221968: use libthumbnailer for gallery thumbnails

      o

Bug #1268748: videos are not displayed when running on desktop

      o

Bug #1271327: disable switching between camera and gallery on
        desktop

      o

Bug #1287272: Black flash at the end of the zoom animation

  *

Many other bug fixes that improve desktop mode are being actively
    worked on
