and maybe nohup too, to prevent it from freezing if any messages are
printed:

     nohup sh -c "mirscreencast -m /var/run/mir_socket --stdout
--cap-interval 1 -s 540 960 | nc 10.42.0.64 12344" &
tried both; same problem. Exiting the terminal stops the screencast as well... I'm digging into this.
