I know about the fg command and tried it a few times. It brings the session 
to life again, but any cmd you then type is echoed twice like this:

$ ssh localhost
$
now swipe away and come back

stopped ssh localhost
fg
ssh localhost
$ echo foo
echo foo
foo
$
