The .com text comes from your keyboard layout. For example, for the Polish
layout, you might have the choice for a .pl key.
I believe that the logic that detects whether there are two dots, is done
in the app and not in the keyboard layout. To verify, type such a URL in a
text editor on an iPhone.
A hostname with two consequetive dots is probable illegal, so I assume that
the browser just removes the duplicates as a usability feature.
