According to the wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Emulator):
> To update to a latest image; it is safe to create over the previous 
> instance (upgrade option comming soon).

As I recall, it's been coming soon for at least the last year and a 
half, so don't get too excited.
