Re: Convergence (current status for bq devices)
Hi Kevin,
Great reply - really clear information.
Another aspect of convergence that I'm interested in is running XMir, or X-compatible applications. Will this be part of OTA-8, or any subsequent OTA update? And will the BQ E4.5 have sufficient power/resources to support this?
Thanks,
Liam.

Subject: Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Convergence (current status for bq devices)
Hi,It's probably important for me to state first and foremost, our unity8/mir releases contain the same code across all of our supported devices. This code is in our the latest images (rc-proposed that is...iirc we _just_ missed the cutoff for stable/OTA7). The 2 primary features are this 1) attaching a bluetooth mouse will put unity8 into windowed mode (regardless of external monitor). 2) attaching an external monitor is supported by the software (and will also put unity8 into windowed mode). All of this will just be part of OTA8.
Besides the software, there is of course a hardware aspect to these features. For a cabled external monitor, I can only speak to Nexus4 & Nexus 7(2013) which have support for slimport (not MHL, they are similar but different specs). And it's been confirmed on this mailing list before, MX4 & BQE4.5 do not have slimport or MHL. As for your BQE5, I am not familiar but would suspect the same wrt slimport and MHL. And as for your bluetooth mouse connection issue with your BQE5, I can't speak to that capability, maybe a bug? or maybe someone else knows...
As for releasing a 15.10 based image, there's no plan to do so. And we're still releasing all of our features into stable-phone-overlay ppa on top of 15.04 - so in reality the 15.04+overlay is "more current" than 15.10 as 15.10 has been closed/frozen for some time now. And what little differs between 15.10 and 15.04+overlay is largely irrelevant for phone.

I have difficulties finding out the current status of convergence.
There have been a few videos and photos around on YouTube, Google+,
OMG!Ubuntu, Ubuntu Wiki, but I've found no official roadmap or release
date for an Ubuntu Touch release with convergence features enabled in
general (on any device). Even worse, on OMG!Ubuntu a commenter
mentions having been told by a Canonical representative that
convergence will never be available for bq Aquaris (4.5) devices:
"""
"The guy in charge of phone development at Canonical UK told me
recently that you won't be able to 'converge' your Aquaris. For one
thing the E4.5 isn't able to support MHL. It just doesn't have the
required hardware to run as a desktop."
"""
See below for some sources.
Also, I've just bought a MHL micro USB to HDMI adapter [1], which
works great for attaching USB pen drives, but when I try to attach
either a wireless keyboard and mouse [2], or an external monitor to my
bq Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition (latest OTA, 15.04, r6, VEGETEA01A-...)
nothing happens. Attaching a bluetooth mouse [3] to the phone isn't
supported yet either; same for the bluetooth keyboard of my kids' Kano
device. At least on the stock image updated over the air.
So,what is actually true? Will Ubuntu Touch on our devices be capable
to do convergence, say, with the next OTA update? When can we expect
convergence to work for all devices by default? Is there a status page
or roadmap somewhere?
(BTW, just noted that my phone runs 15.04; will the next OTA bring 15.10?)
