Of course Bluetooth uses dongles. They're very common with Bluetooth keyboards or mice because not all systems (particularly desktops) have Bluetooth receivers. Incidentally, I use an old Bluetooth receiver with my Raspberry Pi 2. It goes into the USB port right next to the WiFi dongle I bought for the Pi.
