Thanks for your comment.
I also can wake up the screen only when I press the circle button 'right 
after' short pressing the power button (top side of the phone). To sum up I 
tried following use cases:

#1
- phone unlocked no apps
- press power button to lock
- right or long after press circle button
-> screen remains off

#2
- phone unlocked with apps
- press power button to lock
- right after press circle button (ie about 1sec.)
-> screen on

#3
- phone unlocked with apps
- press power button to lock
- long after press circle button
-> screen remains off

#4
- phone unlocked with Music 'playing tune'
- press power button to lock
- right or long after press circle button
-> screen on

Note : During those tests I suddlenly got a crash -> restart at the welcome 
screen 'Ubuntu' with blinking dots underneath
