So this does two things:

 - move the shared test.py tests in to shared_tests.py and import that in to each test.py (so they're picked up by the test runner)
 - move the identical test_remote.py in to tools/ and symlink to it

I'm afraid there is also trailing whitespace removal throughout, let me know if that's problematic and I'll try to sort it out..
