[Document Viewer] Support for Office documents ?
Hi all,
First of all, congratulations to all people working on UbuntuTouch ! I
test it for few days on a Nexus 7 and it's a very nice UI, very pleasant
to use.
Then, my question :
I saw the current discussions about DocumentViewer, PDF support...
But I saw nothing about Office documents, except the specs of
DocumentViewer : "Parse and display text, rtf, OpenDocument and Open
Office XML file types "
We have no informations about what technology will be used for that.
Maybe, it's still not defined ?
I usually use LibreOffice (and even tried to work with the design team),
but there'll never be an Ubuntu Touch version, because of technical
constrains.
So I tried Calligra and I've been pleased by their engine.
IMHO, the best solution to provide a support for Office files is to use
the Calligra engine with a new UI written in QML. The Calligra team is
already working on a QML version (a viewer) for Plasma Active.
So, Is there any plan to port Calligra engine to Ubuntu touch ?
If yes, I'll very interested to help create an UX/UI [1].
And for the future, Calligra Engine would also provide a strong
foundation for creating editors on tablets and desktop (an
"UbuntuOffice" ?? ;-)
I have an idea to create a special kind of drawing software, and with
such an engine, it would be much easier ;-)
Cheers,
Michel
