Hi,

In general I'd say use Utopic, however I believe Nekhelesh has done

I am just getting started with trying to run this in LXC. I still need to
figure out stuff like creating device kits, detecting usb devices in a LXC
container. Until now I have been using Trusty and testing my applications
in the emulator or the phone (by using device kits). This is quite fast and
has improved a ton in the past few months. This should already cover most
of your use-cases. However if you want to run Autopilot or QML Tests, then
you will need a utopic vm or desktop since I haven't found a reliable way
[1] to run qml tests on the device. While with Autopilot, you will want to
use autopilot vis to debug which cannot be done on the emulator and device
afaik.

Since you have trusty installed, I say give the emulator a shot. You can
find the required documentation on setting up and running apps on the
emulator at [2].

If you have any issues getting the emulator setup, let us know.

Cheers,
Nekhelesh
