That should be fine.

Karmic uses GNOME 2.28

There shouldn't be any problem in uploading those files, either in
Karmic or in Lucid. However, I'd recommend you to upload them in Lucid
for two reasons:

      * The GNOME 2.30 strings will match those in Lucid (Lucid uses
        GNOME 2.30)
      * Launchpad Translations has got a feature called message sharing.
This means that if you upload the translations to any distro,
those which are identical will be propagated to all other distro
versions. In short, you can upload in Lucid and the strings
which are the same will also appear translated in Karmic.

I should also mention that if you committed those files upstream they
should appear in Launchpad in any case, as soon as there is a new Ubuntu
package for any of those GNOME modules.

If you've got more questions, please feel free to ask on the
ubuntu-translators mailing list

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/Contact#UbuntuTranslators

where other translators will also be able to give you a hand.

Regards,
David.
