Message #06182
[Bug 570206] Re: Messages need to be changed for proper translation
This was reported for Lucid. The strings changed since that time. It is
still not the best possible solution in the current Ubuntu version but
the translation is understandable and correct.
Since this will not be fixed for Lucid anyway I am closing this bug.

Title:
Messages need to be changed for proper translation
Status in Ubuntu Translations:
Fix Released
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Binary package hint: ubiquity
Strings affected:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/ubiquity/+pots/ubiquity-debconf/de/9/+translate
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/ubiquity/+pots/ubiquity-debconf/de/12/+translate
Since the grammatical gender of ${MEDIUM} differs depending on the
medium, a proper translation into German (and most probably also all
other languages with different grammatical genders) is currently
impossible. Our "solution" was to provide two alternatives for the
pronoun, as you see, but this looks very ugly and has already been
reported by several users.
For a proper translation, we’d need one translatable string per
medium.
