Title:
GVim desktop entry is not translatable
Status in Ubuntu Translations:
Triaged
Status in “vim” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
Binary package hint: vim
The desktop entry in Applications > Accessories > GVim Text Editor
appears untranslated in all languages and cannot be translated.
This is due to the desktop file being shipped with static translations
in the source package (debian/gvim.desktop), but only for the
"Comment" section.
Ideally, the file should be renamed to gvim.desktop.in, translations
removed (they should be in the PO files anyway) and the Name and
Comment section be prefixed with an underscore for their strings to be
extracted by intltool and merged into the POT template.
Additionally, in order for them to be translatable in Launchpad and
used in the distro, the 'X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain' key should be added
to the .desktop.in file (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation#Desktop%20Entries)
