I agree with Jacob. I do get a number of mailing lists (probably too
many for good management), but with a forum you have "one" web link that
contains lots of postings;
I like MLs just as much as the next person here, but I think we may be
missing out on a bunch of people on the forums.
vs. the ML that can produce lots of messages that have to be opened (and
if it's a popular topic, the replies could become unmanageable.
I also agree with the previous message about the IRC, I just can't find
the time to "be there" as my schedule may not fit well with the majority
of the IRC group. And a personal note, I have a hard time following
treads when in a "room". The conversation goes too fast and I get lost
when postings I read are for something said regarding a posting many
posts ago. With the forum, I can go at my speed and with most forums, I
can reply right below the post I was responding to. I feel that I
better understand what is going on and can be more active in the forum
(like I am doing right now with an e-mail).
I also like the idea of having a chance to have a LoCo meeting in person
at OLF. It's too hard for me to get to the OSU-Panera for the Ubuntu
Hours, but maybe a quarterly gathering of the LoCo for some sort of
activity (maybe lasting a couple of hours or so making the drive
worthwhile) would be a good idea.
